Anyone care to provide cliff notes on this email from xfinity?

We've updated our Residential Services Agreement

As part of our commitment to put our customers first, we regularly review our Xfinity Residential Services Agreement to incorporate updates that reflect our products and services. We’ve made some updates that will take effect on May 3, 2024. These updates include changes to the arbitration provisions and a provision addressing cloud DVR technology in more detail. The updates will apply to you, as applicable, if you continue to use your Xfinity services after that date. We encourage you to review the updated agreement. You’ll find a copy in your Xfinity bill this month or online (link deleted for privacy)

Not sure why you removed the link as it is a public document.

quote: If the Services you subscribe to include cloud DVR and you use this technology, you confirm that you want to activate cloud DVR in connection with the Services, subject to this Agreement. You agree that cloud DVR technology will enable you to schedule, make, and access your recordings using this technology on any supported devices, such as supported set-top boxes, streaming video players, smart televisions, computers, smartphones, and tablets, and you confirm that when you record using this technology, you would like your recordings to be saved and stored, on both your set-top DVR (if applicable) and automatically on Comcast’s or Comcast’s service provider’s network, in one or more formats to (1) enable you to play and navigate within such recordings on different supported devices and (2) optimize the video and audio quality of your viewing experience during playback.

Thank you. I have no idea what cloud DVR technology is.

edit: does this apply to any / all streaming material? I use Amazon, YouTube , and Netflix. I do not have any Comcast equipment if that helps.

Thanks--didn't want to take the chance that I'd be sharing my bill, lol. Also, this is why I am hoping for the cliff notes version. (I'm not a lawyer and mucking through 20 pages of that pdf seems fairly pointless.)

No, it applies to Xfinity stream and X1 DVR. · actions · 2024-Apr-9 10:52 pm · outatyme

I got a similar insert in my bill on an internet only plan. it looks like an update to the TOS where comcast is forcing binding arbitration.

You should see Louis Rossmann's Youtube videos about other companies doing this. (refrigerators, TV's).

Might be time to drop comcast since what did they ever do before these provisions. Hopefully they are not trying to do damage control in regards to a potential class action over their recent data breach by forcing everyone into binding arbitration (no jury trial and no legal action in a court of law) - only arbitration / mediation with a mediator they choose.

(with the customer paying the expenses for the action if they don't prevail with the mediator).
